MGMT 359 Sport Analytics (offered online)

The popularity of analytics in sports is at an all-time high, opening up opportunities for new ways of analyzing data and making decisions to gain competitive advantage. This course provides fundamental analytical skills necessary to be successful in the business of sports. These skills include critical thinking, statistical analysis, and data visualization which are generally applicable to other areas of business.
The primary sports discussed in this course will be baseball, football, basketball, and soccer. Other sports such as tennis, golf, and horse racing will be discussed in the context of specific case studies. Special emphasis will be on professional and collegiate sports because of the availability of data, however students are encouraged to pursue their interests in other sports by applying the methods covered in class.
Prerequisites: ECON 200 Basic Economic Issues, ACCT 250 Survey of Accounting - or - ACCT 200 Introduction to Financial Accounting; or consent of instructor. Students from all majors are welcome.
